THE INAGUAS The Island: Pink Flamingos, Isolated, Morton Salt
The most southerly and the third-largest island of The Bahamas, Great Inagua is home to 1,200 people. It lies 325 miles southeast of Nassau. It is actually two separate islands, Great and Little Inagua, which together are referred to as The Inaguas. Why Flamingoes, and Why Salt in Inaguas? Simply put, the geography of Great Inagua, with heat, wind and the shallow pools create huge deposits of salt; and the shallow salt ponds attract shrimp, which attract flamingoes? Easy, right?
Inagua Heritage Festival
Every year, in Great Inaguas, there is the "Inaguas Heritage Festival", which includes the world famous "Donkey Race". This year, the Festival occurs between August 2nd to 6th, 2007. Other activities include: Junkanoo, Gospel and other music by local and national artists, and other activities....
